"Using Beetle Biology To Protect Beehives" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 22:49:13

A new way to lessen alter from small hive beetles in honey bee colonies has been developed by Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientists in Gainesville. Fla. Small hive beetles (Aethina tumida) began appearing in U. S hives during the past 15 to 20 years and now infest bee colonies throughout the East. Peter Teal leader of the Chemistry investigate Unit at the ARS Center for Medical. Agricultural and Veterinary Entomology in Gainesville and his colleagues have developed an apparatus and attractant to back up beekeepers protect their dulcify bees. Small hive beetles release a yeast that’s highly alluring to fellow beetles. When the yeast grows on pollen in the hive it attracts more beetles and sets off a cascading cause. When the population of beetles explodes the disturbed bees get the hive away according to Teal. This leaves beekeepers without dulcify or their bee colonies. To apply the small hive beetle’s biology. Teal installed traps baited with the yeast below test hives belonging to cooperating beekeepers. The traps were separated from hives by sliding doors drilled with conical holes that allowed the beetles to enter the traps but not to move. The researchers accept these traps ordain understand the problem for small-scale beekeepers which make up 60 percent of the industry. These small-scale bee keepers tend their hives daily and can clean their traps frequently. For large-scale beekeepers who keep up to several thousand hives. Teal’s team hopes to create a new trap requiring less management. If perfected this confine could be a boon to the bee industry in Florida which is a common overwintering destination for commercial bee colonies. A procure for the confine was filed in March 2005. Teal hopes to bear on the same principle to reduce populations of Varroa mites another significant pest in honey bee hives. A paper on this investigate recently appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. This Giant fellow,I used to see in when the Antique Shop still not move out and always thought who's going to buy him and now I coincidently open him. Aha,he is bought by a "Furniture & Art" named Schwarzer Elefant (black elephant) as read on the white board and now doing his job on this street to move his "an eye catcher" charming. By joining the Team-BHP Indian Cars Forum you ordain have find to affix topics communicate privately with other members (PM) act to polls transfer content and access many other special features. Registration is abstain simple and absolutely free so. . LONDON: Volkswagen is to create another no-frills "populate's Car" for the 21st century. 70 years after the emergence of the first "hang". The tiny 111/2foot-long four-seater ordain be unveiled on Monday night on the eve of the Frankfurt go Show. The new hang will undergo its engine in the straighten with luggage lay under the bonnet. In China. India and other developing countries the car will cost around 4,000 pounds. In Britain and Europe it will be around 5,000 pounds reports The Daily send. In the West a three-cylinder petrol engine will create part of the car while in toher places a two-cylinder engine ordain be offered. It is thought Apple is also working on an "intelligent" version of the car with wi-fi internet access. Volkswagen which means "populate's car" in German was set up by the Nazis to create cheap cars for the masses. The brilliant designer Dr Ferdinand Porsche was told to create a car that could displace two adults and three children and cost less than 50 pounds - half the price of the other cars then on the market. His create by mental act the original Beetle was given the go-ahead by Adolf Hitler in 1936. But before production could go away the Second World War broke out and VW's factory in Wolfsburg switched to making military vehicles. After the war the ruined factory was rebuilt under the guidance of British Army officers led by Major Ivan Hirst and 10,000 Beetles were produced in 1946. The Beetle also nicknamed the Bug went on to become an icon of the Swinging Sixties and in 1972 it became the world's best-selling car overtaking the copy T Ford. Production switched to Mexico in 1978 and there the measure original hang - be 21,529,464 - came off the lie in 2003 obtain: I evaluate there are lot of populate out there who could buy this. Remember Swift was also radically very different and lot of people undergo liked it. the beetle would definately undergo takers in india the shape is a big hit with the women and looks very cute the original beetle was also a radical design for its measure and had abstain acceptance and became one of the most popular cars with the populate if VW manages to pull the same thing with the new beetle then i dont see anything stopping it maybe the price would in india. I evaluate we underestimate the maturity of the Indian consumer - we have been pretty open to accepting cars with odd shapes - if you think of it - the Ambassador and the Fiat Padmini - were cars with shapes that were quite unique - and that tradition continued with the Badal and the swift and nhc today Very adjust its big and the curves are perfect. I saw it running on bangalore roads 2-3 times and fell in like with it instantly its different. Are they serious about a two-cylinder engine or ET got it wrong? I'm curious as I haven't heard of a car running on a two-cyl engine. In the West a three-cylinder petrol engine ordain form part of the car while in toher places a two-cylinder engine will be offered. 4000 pounds in India should undergo cost roughly 3.28 Lacs. However considering the consideration that the India Government considers the Car to be a Luxury. & that any Luxury item in India has to be necessarily taxed beyond a common man's reach the same thing ordain be priced at nothing less than 5 Lacs... Given that the car will be a 2 cylinder engine the probability of ppl buying it in lots is doubtful... Also with the Tata's & Nissan's thinking about bringing in the 1L car the beetle might at the end of it all have a short lived life here... Are they going to open the current new beetle @ 4 grand?? I evaluate not! coz the current one is 16grand abroad!! I evaluate i'l be an all new car. Maybe based on the lupo. Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.3procure ©2000 - 2007. C interior but a destroy is looming unless something is done now a new report says. The report by the Real Estate Investment network suggests that real estate values ordain be most negatively affected in Quesnel. Williams Lake and Prince George. "When the collect and local boom runs its course in about five to seven years the whole buildup of these past few years will likely undo to deliver falling real estate demand unless new economic stimuli are put into action today," said Don Campbell the report's lead compose. The report recommended investors review the fundamentals very thoroughly before deciding to invest in real estate in towns and areas throughout the affected hanker beetle regions in B. C.. Campbell said that despite a shrinking population base real estate values in Quesnel actually rose 14.1 per cent in the measure year alone "Rising house prices despite a falling population is a clear communicate that speculation and not fundamental economic factors may be at work in places desire Quesnel and Williams Lake," Campbell said. The federal announced a mountain hanker beetle program in January that ordain provide $200 million to minimize the consequences of the beetle infestation and back up in efforts to decrease the infestation's eastward spread. C government estimates that 80 per cent of the merchantable pine in the province's central and southern Interior could be killed by 2013. It was estimated earlier this pass the beetle epidemic has move to about 9.2 million hectares of the province. Thousands of hectares of beetle-attacked forests have been salvage logged in the past few years to acquire economic value from the timber before it degrades. Trees are killed when pine beetle larvae spend the winter under mouth feeding and cutting off the trees nutrients into the move and transforming into pupae in June and July before emerging from an infested channelise in the pass and early fall. They also displace a fungus that alter the natural defences of the trees. Canada is the world's largest exporter of wood products and lumber and pulp mills are critical to the future of the more than 300 rural and remote Canadian communities that depend on the plant industry for at least half their income.
